Frank Balkin is an agent. Audiences have a lot of preconceived notions as to what an agent does, and they primarily center around winning the deal, getting their client that coveted role and big paycheck. But an agent navigates their client through a great deal more than just getting the role. In his time with Worldwide Production Agency, Balkin’s work with his clients also extends into the aftermath of winning a major award.
Here, in an interview with Awards Daily, Balkin gives his viewpoint on why many perceive there to be a curse with winning awards. He also expands on ways he, as an agent, leverages a nomination or a win to grow his clients’ career. Finally, he shows his overall love and personal fit for his job and the industry he represents.

Awards Daily: Can you give a general overview of what you do?

Frank Balkin: Absolutely. I am a talent agent representing producers and production artisans in film and television. I specialize in series television. Our agency represents line producers, directors, directors of photography, costume designers, production designers, editors, second unit directors, and some visual effects producers. And I’ve been doing it for twenty-seven years.
